The Ungapatchka Epicormia wall sconce is inspired by the rapid, brightly coloured regrowth that shoots from the trunks of Eucalyptus trees after a wild fire. The first of the pair was made as a private commission in 2022 with the second, (it’s twin but in reverse with the foliage running top right to bottom left) made for exhibition, ‘Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily’ in Divisions Gallery, Australia, 2023.
The curved and perforated back plate is made from 3mm brass with a lacquered dark bronze patina. The second, smaller inner reflector is polished bright brass and conceals double ended brass E19 lamp holders, also in a lacquered dark bronze finish. The 250 bronze leaf forms that adorn the piece are each hand formed and colored with flamed, aged, verdigris, powder blue, vinegar vapor and hot patina finishes.
